OVERALL CLINICAL DATA ON SPECIFIC INGREDIENT(S) & HOW THEY FUNCTION:
Lackluster or dull skin can be attributed to oxidative stress, excess dead skin cells, and dry skin. Skin is exposed to environmental stressors daily such as pollution and UV radiation that create free radicals in the skin. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals can result in hyperpigmentation and spotting leaving the skin tone uneven. Antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, can combat oxidative stress by quenching free radicals before they cause a cascade of unwelcome skin reactions such as excessive and uneven pigment production. Uneven or excessive desquamation can also be a source of dull looking skin. Skin cells naturally turnover and fall off, a process called desquamation, but sometimes excess dead skin cells can build up making the skin look uneven in tone and texture. Proteolytic enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids can be used to improve skin radiance by breaking down the corneodesmosomes that hold corneocytes or skin cells together. Once the superficial layers of the skin are loosened they can be gently removed by cleansing surfactants leaving skin brighter and more even toned. Finally, dry and dehydrated skin can leave skin looking flaky, flat, and lackluster. Moisturizing and minimizing skin dehydration can make the skin surface more even and uniform allowing light to reflect better off the surface and appear more radiant. This can be achieved through the use of humectants and hygroscopic molecules that draw moisture to the skin surface.
The Brightener Vitamin C Brightening Body Wash is a silky gel cream body wash that efficiently cleanses while increasing skin radiance. Gentle yet effective surfactants remove skin impurities without drying while ascorbyl glucoside (a highly stable vitamin C derivative), bioactive fruit acid, and enzymes brighten the look of dark spots and dull skin by quenching free radicals and exfoliating the skin surface. Skin appears softer, smoother, and more radiant. This system contains an advanced moisture complex of hygroscopic molecules glycerin, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate that increase skin hydration and improve barrier function. This hygroscopic blend also boosts antioxidant activity to fight oxidative stress thus preventing lackluster skin. It’s formulated at a skin friendly pH of 5.0-5.75 and is gentle enough for daily use. For best results, leave on for a few minutes before rinsing to reveal luminous skin.
